Al Pacino and his different faces
About this actor we can say that he is brilliant. He is especially recognized from his roles in The Godfather trilogy as a gangster Michael Corleone and in Scarface as Tony Montana - I have written about these movies in my previous post. But I would also introduce you (maybe you know these movies already) other excellent movies where Al Pacino plays the main role. And he plays them perfectly.
The Devil's Advocate
I really don't know why I have waited so long to watch this movie. It was released in the year I was born. Maybe that's why. But I really like movies of the twentieth century. They have very special atmosphere which current films don't have.
Kevin Lomax, the character played by Keanu Reeves (another great actor) - an outstanding lawyer, tempted by a lucrative job offer, moves to New York. However, he doesn't know who his boss is. From the title of movie, we've already known who he is. And of course he is played by Al Pacino.
In addition to this, in a movie, we can found another famous actress, Charlize Theron, who is the wife of the main character.
The movie is just great. Definitely one of my favorites. Full of unspoken events and unexpected twists. Above all, it shows how easily we humans succumb to various temptations, despite the fact that no one is evil by nature, you can see how easily we succumb to different things and how easy it is to cross the boundaries between good and evil.
Scent of the Woman
I've seen this movie several times and if someone hasn't seen it, I advise you to catch up quickly. The role of Al Pacino in this movie is really brilliant. Without him, this film would have deserved a much lower mark. He just stole the whole story.
Briefly, the blind retired Colonel Frank Slade (Al Pacino) becomes the best teacher of life for the timid student (Chris O'Donnell). The student was supposed to look after the colonel over the weekend, as the Slade's family is leaving, and meanwhile, the old man took care of him and he shows him true life without the filter. The boy learns more during these few short days than at school where he has problems with a few students.
It is impossible to give the atmosphere and to tell the story of this film in a few sentences, but it is really one of these movies that you have to watch in your life at least one time.
It's very thought-provoking story which make you more sensitive for the world around us.
Frankie and Johnny
This is one of the lesser-known films where Al Pacino doesn't play a bad character after all (although his protagonist is obviously a former prisoner) and it's actually a slightly different genre than his everyday life, which is romance. Al Pacino reunites with Michelle Pfeiffer on the screen.
This is not an ordinary romantic movie. This is not a story of a fairy-tale romance, it has no rich things and no big events. It's just an ordinary love story. But this ordinariness is so unearthly that you just want to watch it.
A very beautiful movie. It's worth watching to see Pacino in a role other than a gangster.
In addition to the previously mentioned roles, it is also worth watching The Recruit, Insomnia, but also newer films such as: Danny Collins or You don't know Jack where in the 1990s an American doctor fights to legalize euthanasia - very interesting and poignant movie.
Finally, I can say that he is one of my favorite (and surely many others) actors right next to Robert De Niro. However, I think Al is an even more versatile actor. It's hard to believe that he only got one Oscar, right?
